ALL Blarney Island general, safety and fuel/technical rules must be adhered to. Rules are subject to change. Any changes will be communicated at drivers' meeting one week prior to enactment. Any requested changes or additions must be made in writing to Blarney Island Race Staff.
Hulls must be regular production open cockpit boats originally designed, manufactured and marketed for seating of 3 or more people. Passenger seats may be removed during competition.
- Engines or replacement short-blocks must be or have been available through a normal or high-performance dealer network in the U.S.
- Engines must meet stock specifications except as noted.
- Short-blocks with steel sleeves may be decked a maximum of .010". Cylinder overbore limited to size of available OEM service parts. Decked blocks must use thick head gaskets.
- Flywheels may be lightened (must utilize all OEM pieces - no Titanium flex plates, etc.)
- Aftermarket (including Wizard) pistons may be used as produced. Aftermarket top-pinning and piston coating is allowed. No cutting, lightening, or balancing allowed.
- Clamp and swivel bracket must be an OEM part. Clamp and swivel bracket may be lightened, but not removed. No custom clamp or swivel brackets allowed.
- Gearcases must be shiftable (forward, neutral, reverse) from the driver's seat. No small gearcases. Aftermarket low-water pickup nosecones allowed.
- OEM, modified and aftermarket short-shaft midsections (15" minimum as measured from the powerhead flange to gearcase flange) are allowed. No Champ-type midsections.
- Rev Limiters may be removed. Aftermarket ECUs and corresponding regulator/fuel curve are allowed. Ignition advance modules are not allowed.
- 37cc heads minimum unless as noted below.
- Drag motors/blocks not allowed
- Motors with belt-driven alternator must race with belt in place and functioning.
- Minimum Weights
- Merc Racing 2.5 liter 260/280 EFI - 1600 pounds minimum weight
- Merc Racing 2.5 liter 245 Carbureted - 1525 pounds minimum weight
- Add the appropriate weight for each of the following bolt-on modifications. Modifications must be declared at weigh in. Any changes must be reported to Blarney Island race staff prior to racing:
- Spacer Plate - 12.5 Pounds
- 280 with full 260 electronics - 12.5 Pounds
- Modified airhorn (metal may be removed, but not added) - 12.5 Pounds
- Alternate reed cages (must be OEM) - 12.5 Pounds
- 145 pounds of compression - 12.5 Pounds
- SVS - 25 Pounds
- Racing or small charging ignition systems, and flywheels (aluminum or "flex") allowed.
- Minimum head size:
- Mercury Lazer motors: 34CC
- OMC/BRP: 2.7L - 30CC; 3.0L - 36CC; 3.3L 42CC
- 1" Spacer plate is allowed (Lazer EFI only)
- Minimum Weight - 1500 Pounds
- Add the appropriate weight for each of the following bolt-on modifications. Modifications must be declared at weigh in. Any changes must be reported to Blarney Island race staff prior to racing:
- Alternate reed cages (must be OEM) - 12.5 Pounds
- SVS - 25 Pounds
- Evinrude/Johnson OEM Fuel Injection - 75 Pounds (3 bags)
